SNSD (Sonyeo Shidae or So Nyuh Shi Dae or Girls’ Generation) is a nine-member South Korean girl group formed by S.M. Entertainment in 2007. SNSD referred to as SoShi (소시).

Kim Tae Yeon


Kim Tae-yeon (Hangul: 김태연; Hanja: 金泰耎; born March 9, 1989) is a South Korean idol singer, host, radio DJ, dancer, actress, and promotional model. She is the leader and main vocalist of the girl group Girls’ Generation.

Taeyeon was discovered in the 2004 SM Entertainment’s 8th Annual Best Contest winning Best Singer 1st Place & Grand Award in the contest. In 2004, she was featured in The One’s song “You Bring Me Joy” before debuting as Girls’ Generation’s leader. She is a 2008 graduate of Jeonju Art High School and was decorated with the school’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jessica Jung


Jessica Jung (Korean name: Jung Soo-yeon; Hangul: 정수연; Hanja: 鄭秀妍; born April 18, 1989 in San Francisco, California) is a Korean-American singer, dancer, actress and model. She was born in San Francisco and is fluent in both English and Korean. She is a member of the South Korean nine-member girl group Girls’ Generation (also called SNSD).

She auditioned at the SM Entertainment Casting System and joined the company in 2000. She had been trained for seven years as a trainee before debuting as part of the Korean girl group Girls’ Generation.

Her younger sister, Krystal Jung, is a member of the Korean girl group f(x), also created by SM Entertainment.

In 2011, Jessica Ranked #45 on ‘The 22nd Annual Independent Critics List of the 100 Most Beautiful Faces.’

Sunny Lee


Sunny was born on May 15, 1989 in Horn Lake, and moved to Kuwait when she was an infant. Her family moved to South Korea around the time of the Gulf War. She has two older sisters, who share the same birthday as her but born in different years. She speaks fluent Korean, along with basic Chinese and basic Japanese. Her father was in the college band Hwaljooro with Bae Chul-soo. She is the niece of Lee Soo Man, the founder of SM Entertainment.

In 1998, Sunny entered Starlight Entertainment and became a trainee for 5 years before transferring to Starworld where she became a member of a duet called “Sugar” which never debuted. One of her older sisters was the manager for Sugar, but when the duo disbanded, she became active in other parts of the music industry.

In 2007, Lee was recommended by the singer Ayumi, who transferred to SM Entertainment. After several months of training under SM Entertainment, Sunny debuted as a member of Girls’ Generation that same year.

Tiffany


Tiffany (Korean name: Hwang Mi-Young; Hangul: 황미영; Hanja: 黄美英; Born Stephanie Hwang on August 1, 1989 in San Francisco, California), is an American born South Korean singer, dancer, show host, event MC, promotional model, actress and musical actress. She is a member of the nine-member South Korean girl group Girls’ Generation.

Tiffany was grew up in Diamond Bar, California as the youngest of three siblings. She was born in the same hospital as her fellow Girls’ Generation member, Jessica. She auditioned at the SM Entertainment Starlight Casting System and joined the company on October 2004 in Los Angeles. Tiffany also speaks fluent English and Korean as well as a little Chinese, and Japanese. She trained for 3 years and 7 months before debuting.

Kim Hyo-yeon


Hyoyeon was born in Incheon, South Korea on September 22, 1989. She is ambidextrous and grew up with her parents and her younger brother Kim Min Gu. She auditioned for SM Entertainment at the age of 11 through SM 2000 Casting System. Hyoyeon herself said, she had no intentions to audition, but her mother was a fan of SM Entertainment’s boy band H.O.T. and brought her to the offices in the hopes, perhaps, of seeing them. She then danced in her audition show. In 2004, she was sent to study Chinese in Beijing, China alongside with Choi Siwon. Her Chinese name is 孝渊 (Xiàoyuān) in simplified Chinese characters.

She is the main dancer, lead rapper and supporting vocalist of the group.

Kwon Yuri


Kwon Yuri (Hangul: 권유리;) is a South Korean idol singer, dancer, actress, presenter and promotional model. She is a member of popular girl group, Girls’ Generation. She is one of the lead dancers and rappers in the group.

Yuri was born in Goyang, Gyeonggi, South Korea on December 5, 1989. She auditioned at the SM Entertainment Casting System and joined the company in 2001 after finishing in second place in the 2001 SM Youth Best Dancer Contest. She then underwent training for 5 years and 11 months before her debut. She has a older brother, Kwon Hyuk-jun.

She graduated from NeungGok High School in 2008 and is currently attending at Chung-Ang University along with fellow group member, Sooyoung.

Choi Soo-young


Choi Soo-young (born February 10, 1990) is a South Korean idol singer, actress, dancer, spokesmodel, TV presenter, and RJ. She is the lead rapper and lead dancer of the girl group Girls’ Generation. Soo-young also speaks fluent Japanese as well as little English. Sooyoung is the only Asian girl appearing in Complex’s Hottest ’90s Babies.

Sooyoung was born in Seoul, South Korea on February 10, 1990. She has an older sister, Choi Soo Jin, who is a musical actress. Her father, Choi Jungnam, who is an architect as well as a manager of a contracting company. Her mother, Moon Soohee, is a housewife, but she has taught opera classes.

She was discovered on SM Casting System via the 2000 SM Open Audition. She then auditioned for the 2002 Korea-Japan Ultra Idol Duo Audition and won first place, marking her debut into the Japanese music scene with the band Route θ.

After winning first place in the 2002 Korea-Japan Ultra Idol Duo, Sooyoung was sent to Japan and debuted as a member of the duo Route θ, alongside Marina Takahashi. The band released three singles: “Waku! Waku! It’s Love”, “Start”, and “Painting”, and 3 B-Sides : Go Go Happy!!, Kimi Ni Ae Ta Kara (君に会えたから) and Onna No Ko Magic (女の子マジック). The group was later disbanded in 2003.

Sooyoung graduated from JeongShin Women High School (Korean: 정신 여자 고등학교) in 2009 and is currently majoring in performing arts and theater at Chung-Ang University with fellow member Yuri and Seungri of Big Bang. She is a member of a choir in JeongShin Women High School in her school days.

She is the third youngest member in the girl group Girl’s Generation.

Im Yoona


Im Yoona (Korean: 임윤아), also Im Yun-Ah, is a South Korean idol singer, dancer, actress and promotional model. She is a member and the visual of the girl group, Girls’ Generation. She made her debut as an actress in the 2007 drama, 9 Ends, 2 Outs.

Yoona was born on May 30, 1990, in Seoul, South Korea. She was cast in 2002 SM Entertainment Saturday Open Casting Audition and began to train with the other trainees under SM Entertainment in the areas of acting, singing and dancing. She has trained with SME for 5 years, after which she joined and debuted under Girls’ Generation SNSD.

Seo Joo-hyun


Seo Joo-hyun (born June 28, 1991), who uses the stage name Seohyun, is a South Korean idol singer, dancer, actress, and spokesmodel. She is an only child. SM scouts spotted Seohyun as she walked on the street and offered to let her become an apprentice at the SM Academy. She is known for singing children’s songs for her audition unlike other applicants who usually sing pop and dance songs. She is the maknae, or youngest member, of the girl group Girls’ Generation.

She attended Seoul Middle School and Daeyoung High School, then transferred to Jeonju Arts High School, from which she graduated on February 9, 2010 and currently attends Dongguk University[7][8] with her fellow member, Yoona. Seohyun’s major is acting.

She has been taking lessons on jazz piano. Seohyun also knows fluent Japanese with fellow member Sooyoung, and some Chinese, along with group member Hyoyeon.

She was appointed by the Seoul Metropolitan Office as their goodwill ambassador for student fitness. Also, Seohyun was appointed as one of the UNICEF envoys on the 11th at Changseong-Dong, Seoul. This is a notable feat, as only those who have a respectable reputation are appointed as goodwill representatives. On May 2012, Seohyun was appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for the UN 2012 Yeosu Expo.
